The Afro-Caribbean Mentorship Program (ACMP) is a vital initiative dedicated to fostering the success of African, Caribbean, Black (ACB), and other racialized undergraduate and graduate students on campus. Through its work, ACMP acknowledges and addresses the unique challenges and systemic barriers faced by ACB and other racialized students, including the pervasive impact of racism, particularly anti-Black racism, and other forms of discrimination.
At the core of ACMP’s mission is the advocacy for an inclusive campus environment where all students, regardless of their racial background, feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to thrive academically, socially, and personally. ACMP recognizes that racialized students often experience marginalization and exclusion, which can hinder their social development and academic success. Therefore, ACMP strives to create a supportive and empowering community that uplifts racialized students and provides them with the tools, resources, and mentorship needed to excel.
The ACMP organizes programs that mentor ACB and other racialized students in the following areas:
Networking with professionals
Financial literacy
Applying to post-undergraduate programs
Writing skills
Practicing positive relationships
Practicing safer sex
Discussions of Black and racialized Canadian scholars
Conference readiness support
Publication support
Communication skills
Confidence building
Resume and interview skills
And much more!
