Michael and Nella Eskin Graduate Travel Award

Dr. Michael Eskin, now in his 55^th Year as Professor in the Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences at the University of Manitoba, is world renowned for his research in fats, oils, lipid chemistry, and biochemistry, especially the exploration of the interaction between food chemistry, nutrition and human health. His pioneering research was critical to the development of canola as an edible oil. A celebrated teacher, he also has a passion for music, writing rap songs to help students learn about food science concepts.

Michael has been recognized many times over for his achievements, including the Order of Canada, the Order of Manitoba, and numerous fellow designations and awards from the Institute of Food Technologists, the American Oil Chemists’ Society, the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology, and the Manitoba Canola Growers Association.

Nella Eskin holds an MBA from the University of Manitoba and has always been a strong partner in Michael’s career, raising their four sons and supporting Michael’s work.

Help us honour them by making a gift to the Michael and Nella Eskin Graduate Travel Award. Beginning in 2023-2024, this important award will assist graduate students in the Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences with travel costs for attending a conference to present their research.
