Help honour Breanne Collins by naming a seat in the Desautels Concert Hall
Music was the thread that wove through every chapter of Breanne Marie Collins’ life (1998-2026). From an early age, she found joy in singing, reading, and creative expression, but it was music that became the passion that shaped her purpose. She believed in its ability to bring people together, build confidence, and create a sense of belonging.
As a student at Vincent Massey Collegiate, Breanne flourished as a flutist and saxophonist, performing in concert and jazz band and while singing with the Pembina Trails Voices divisional choir. She carried that passion to the University of Manitoba’s Desautels Faculty of Music, where she pursued a Bachelor of Music Education and embraced every opportunity to perform and grow as a musician.
Under the tutelage of Laurel Ridd and Laya Roberts, Breanne became an active member of the flute studio and performed with Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and numerous chamber ensembles. Even after completing her music degree, she returned as an alumni member of the University Concert Band, proudly serving as principal flute for her final two seasons.
Breanne’s love of music naturally led her to teaching. After earning her Bachelor of Education, she realized her dream of becoming the band, jazz band, and choir director at Golden Gate Middle School. In December 2025, she celebrated conducting her first concert as a certified teacher, a milestone that reflected years of dedication, perseverance, and passion for music education.
Whether teaching private lessons, leading clinics, working at summer band camps, or standing on the podium in front of her own students, Breanne inspired young musicians to believe in themselves. She celebrated every achievement, encouraged every student, and shared her love of music with generosity, patience and joy.
Although Breanne’s life was far too short, her artistry, kindness, curiosity, and unwavering belief in the potential of others continue to inspire all who had the privilege of making music alongside her.
To honour Breanne’s legacy, her family, friends, classmates, students, colleagues and community are coming together to raise $1,000 to name a seat in the Desautels Concert Hall in her memory.
A named seat will serve as a lasting tribute to a gifted flutist, passionate music educator, and cherished member of the University of Manitoba Desautels Faculty of Music community. May every performance witnessed here celebrate the joy, connection, and lifelong love of music that she so generously shared with the world.

Please note: Should we not reach our fundraising goal, all funds raised will remain with the Desautels Concert Hall Fund, supporting the ongoing enhancement of this exceptional performance space for students and audiences alike.
